Choosing an Instructor top tips
1. Check out your instructor before signing up for a course of driving lessons. Is the Instructor qualified? All must by law display their ADI licence in their vehicle while providing training. Check to ensure your instructor is not a trainee. As a low percentage, 28% in 2009/2010 ,of trainees actually pass their final test to become fully-qualified instructors, you could be being taught by one of the many who never qualify.
2. Do your homework before parting with the cash; price alone should not be your only consideration when choosing an instructor.
3. Ask your friends/other people about their instructor, would they recommend them? Is the instructor calm and relaxed? Will they shout when something goes wrong? Are they punctual? How is their language/conduct during lessons?
4. If you’re signing up with a driving school will you get the same instructor every week?
5. Has the instructor signed a code of conduct?
6. Will they teach in all road and traffic conditions?
7. Remember the cheapest rates do not guarantee you will spend less money in the long run. Good instructors aren’t cheap because the qualifying process is expensive. Running a vehicle and the proper insurance is expensive too, so anyone charging low prices needs to be checked out thoroughly. Remember “cheap lessons” doesn’t necessarily mean value for your money!
8. As well as lesson price, how much will they charge for the use of the car on test? Sometimes this can be heavily inflated to make up for the cost of cheap lessons.
9. Will the instructor push you to achieve your full potential, do they waste unnecessary time with long explanations, or waste time to get more money? Will they have you taking more lessons than necessary?
10. How long will special price/ introductory lessons last? Is the offer price paid up front? What will the future lessons cost?
11. Does the instructor provide any pupil handouts, theory test help?
12. What can they offer that other instructors don’t?
13. Have they carried out any further training since qualifying to maintain/improve their ability?
